Pine oil is used in froth floatation process.
All copper sulfide ores are concentrated using the froth floatationprocess. Ground ore is mixed with xanthate reagents which consistsof pine, reacts with the copper sulfide mineral to make ithydrophobic in its surface.
The sulfide ore is crushed and ground to increase the surface areaof the ore for subsequent processing. The powdered ore is mixedwith pine oil (the ''collector chemical'') and introduced to awater bath (aeration tank) and pure ore is thereby collected.
Pine is exclusively used as an ingredient in aromatics, sanitaryitems and mine dressing due to presence of terpineol content.
Pine oil can be made into pesticide for livestock. This pesticide kills pests such as gadfly without stimulatinganimal body and skin. It is used as adjuvant in textile printingand dyeing, advisable to cotton, woolen, flax, silk and syntheticfiber.
Terpineol can be used to produce high quality printing dyeleading to evenly and firmly distributed colors with pleasingshines on the dyed textiles.
The condensation between A-pinene and formaldehyde generatespinene-based methanol (a mixture of monobasic alcohol and dibasicalcohol). It can be changed into pinene-based methanol-low carbonacid ester (monobasic and dibasic alcohol esters), which is of goodcompatibility with polyvinyl chloride with no decompositions andcoking in the processing and act as a excellentplasticizer.
Turpentine can be made into good heat-resistant lubricant suitablefor jet engine and cold-resistant lubricant (-70-80oC) suitable forthe lubrication of ordnances in cold areas. Warships of US Navy useterpineol in their bottom paint to prevent parasitism of oceanorganisms. It can be put as a thin film of terpene resin on newlycast concrete that can shorten the hardening time of it, thusconstruction quality is assured.
Pinane peroxide made from pine oil can be used as evokerfor synthetic rubber. Polyether foam, a new kind ofinsulator, is made by reaction between pineonic acid-etheneester.
Pine oil is a phenolic disinfectant. It isgenerally effective against numerous bacterial strains andenveloped viruses. It is not generally effective againstnon-enveloped viruses or spores.
Pine oil can be used as an automotive for running vehicles. It actas an excellent lubricant. An excellent raw material forthe production of high quality, specialty industrialchemicals such as dimer acids, epoxidized tallate esters and fattyacid esters for cosmetic, polymer and textile applications. Pineoil is used in applications where light color and low rosin contentare critical.
