Uses : The root is used for a myriad ofmedicinal purposes. According to the ancient Sanskrit texts, coleushas been used as a medical herb to treat heart and lung diseases,intestinal spasms, insomnia and convulsions. It also lowers bloodpressure, antispasmodic, dilates the blood vessels.
It is found to be effective in skin conditions as eczema andpsoriasis. Coleus is primarily indicated for cardiovasculardiseases including hypertension, congestive heart failure andangina. It is also used for asthma, intestinal colic, uterinecramps as well as painful urination. Coleus can aid in digestiveand malabsorption disorders through its ability to stimulatesecretion of saliva, hydrochloric acid, pepsin, amalyase andpancreatic enzymes and increase nutrient absorption in the smallintestine. It accelerates the breakdown of existing fat stores andpromotes healthy cardiovascular function, lowers elevated bloodpressure. Useful in treatment for eczema and other allergiccondition.
